Are you an innovator, an entrepreneur, a developer or a data scientist? Are you interested in space and technology and have a passion to explore and make a difference? If so, we’d like to hear from you.
An increasing amount of industries are now looking to space technology and satellite data to enhance their knowledge and expertise and explore the untapped potential that space technology can offer. From organisations in New Zealand counting albatrosses from space, to monitoring public health across the globe, through to collating data for improving agricultural efficiencies – there’s a wealth of opportunities for using space technology.
The space sector is a fast-moving, emerging market and is one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK. The South West Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications, along with their partner organisations SETsquared and Goonhilly Earth Station, have launched the SpaceTech business incubation programme to provide a unique opportunity for innovative, dynamic start-ups to undergo business incubation.
The SpaceTech programme, part funded by the UK Space Agency, is currently open for applications via the f6S website at spacetechSW2017. Start-ups and entrepreneurs who are interested in exploring space technology are invited to apply for the opportunity to fast-track their ideas within a funded start-up accelerator providing expert support for innovators utilising satellite data and technology.
“Developing businesses often find it hard to connect across boundaries and through a collaboration of university and business partnership, we aim to facilitate interactions bringing them together to stimulate ingenuity, knowledge and innovation, which will enable them to flourish” Cathrine Armour, Centre Director, South West Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications
Cornwall, home to the SpaceTech programme, is also home to a global space sector encompassing Goonhilly Earth Station and Avanti Communications and is perfectly suited to developing and nurturing the space sector to catalyse growth for businesses within the region. Cornwall is ushering a new era of possibility in space technology, attracting the most visionary minds in a global industry. The regions’ already attractive offer for space businesses is now further strengthened by the introduction of the SpaceTech programme – spurring the movement of innovative space technology ventures into the South West.
Applications for the programme are open until 31st July 2017. 10 entrepreneurs will be selected to participate in the SpaceTech programme which includes:
The new start-ups generated from the SpaceTech programme will be on-track to build networks within the UK & beyond in a rapidly evolving sector whilst gaining insight into the international space technology industry.
At the end of the Entrepreneurship Programme, four high-potential satellite & data technology start-ups will be provided with 12 months supported, fit-for-purpose incubation space at Goonhilly Earth Station.
“The importance of innovation in the space industry cannot be overstated, the programme will provide dynamic new businesses the opportunity to meet like-minded people with a shared ambition, in an environment that will stimulate and enable business growth in the South West” Cathrine Armour
Cornwall, a region at the southwestern tip of the UK, is excelling itself in terms of connectivity – utilising both Superfast Broadband connectivity (including a large % of FTTP coverage) alongside satellite communication capabilities to provide unprecedented opportunities for technology led businesses.
