An exciting Aerohub Business Park expansion worth £7.4 million formally began in Newquay today.
Representatives from the project’s partnership gathered at the site to the south of Cornwall Airport Newquay to celebrate the occasion by “breaking the ground” on the construction phase of the project.
The up and coming development aims to generate high wage and high skilled local employment,
adding to the resilience of local communities and the long-term strength of the Cornish economy.
The funding will expand plot 2 of the Aerohub Enterprise Zone Business Park Phase 1 development; a high profile, constraint free site which will act as a catalyst for future jobs and investments.
The 850 acre site will feature a three storey, landmark office building creating a total 1,005m² of
workspace that will offer up to three individual spaces to let on each floor. In addition there will be a further eight business/light industrial units totalling 1,904m².
This transformational project is supported by investment from the European Regional Development Fund (£4,385,818) and Cornwall Council (£3,146,169), part of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Programme.
Steve Double MP for Newquay and St Austell said, “I am delighted to see the next stage of the Aerohub Business Park development take shape with the turf cutting for the Phase One project.”
“We have a lot of really exciting progress taking place in this part of Mid-Cornwall with the continued growth of Cornwall Airport Newquay and the bid for the first UK Spaceport.”
“This latest step brings the the Aerohub Enterprise Zone, which will provide high quality employment space, a step closer to completion, and I look forward to seeing the end result and the extra employment and economic boost this will bring to Mid Cornwall.”
Brian Rice, operations director at Kier, commented, “The expansion of the Aerohub Enterprise
Zone is an exciting one and we are looking forward to delivering new offices and industrial units that will help with the Aerohub’s vision of being a centre for cutting-edge aerospace and space
businesses”
Miles Carden, Spaceport Cornwall Director and Aerohub Enterprise Zone Manager said,
“This is another important milestone in the development of Cornwall’s space sector economy. The expertise, experience and facilities stretch from coast to coast with Goonhilly in the south, to
facilities located here adjacent to Cornwall Airport Newquay. These are exciting times.”
Completion is expected in spring 2019. Small or Medium Sized Enterprises interested in locating in the new state of the art facilities are encouraged to come forward at this early stage of the project.
