With so much going on in Cornwall’s business landscape, it can sometimes be difficult for new arrivals to make a big splash – but not Marwick Marketing.
The full-service marketing agency recently expanded to Newquay from Squamish, a mountain town north of Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. Within just a few months, it’s already landed some local clients and generated huge results for their operations.
The company is a Google Premier Partner in the top 5% of all partners across North America and Europe, specialising in search engine optimisation and pay-per-click ads, as well as other key marketing services like video production and website design. You can find out more about Marwick Marketing in our recent case study, but in the meantime, read on to hear how the agency has transformed the online presence of two Cornish businesses.
When the first national lockdown forced bricks-and-mortar stores to shut, businesses in all sectors had to adapt quickly. Many food and drink businesses made the switch to online delivery – rapidly creating a crowded market, with thousands of people looking for home comforts.
The Cornish Bakery had to close all its 40 stores across the country, but decided to trial a home delivery service, named ‘Pasties by Post’. Its products have always had a strong reputation, with award-winning pasties and widely renowned sausage rolls, but its team knew they needed a new approach to stand above new online competitors.
The company collaborated with Marwick Marketing through its strategic communications partner Excess Energy – helping The Cornish Bakery optimise its Google Search and Google Ad strategies.
Across the first three months, The Cornish Bakery saw a 51% month-on-month average growth in organic traffic coming to its website. Also, for bakery-related key phrases – like “pasty delivery”, “Cornish pasty by post”, and “Cornish pasties delivered” – The Cornish Bakery now ranks number one on Google, previously only ranking on the third page.
The impressive results helped the company achieve its high target during national lockdowns, and monthly sales are continuing to build today.
“This was the first time we were venturing into online sales, and Marwick immediately rose to the challenge. Its team explained how everything works with a simple set of graphics and easy-to-understand bullet points. It’s a great feeling knowing everything is switched on and people are finding your brand as soon as they search for it.”
Stephen Evans-Wrobleski, Head of Commercial Operations, The cornish bakery
Marwick’s support in the region extends far beyond just pasties. The marketing agency has also been working closely with husband- and wife-owned company Bonds the Jewellers.
The company may seem like a modest, local jewellery shop – but it’s actually an international exporter of high-value jewellery, creating bespoke products for customer commercial outlets across Europe. Its clients range from Westminster Abbey and The Royal Marines Shop to private clients in the United States.
Bonds started working with Marwick in November 2020, with a goal to increase its online business reach and yield value throughout the pandemic. The Marwick team quickly reduced the cost-per-click Bonds was paying for Google ads by 45%, saving the company valuable budget that could be re-invested elsewhere.
Also, within just two months of working with Marwick, Bonds managed to double the revenue it generated from its same Google Ad budget – raising the jeweller’s profile across its global audiences.
“We thought Google marketing was working well for us, but we were investing heavily, and we thought our budget might be able to work harder for us,” said Douglas Bond, owner of Bonds the Jewellers. “Marwick immediately proved our yield could grow quicker. I’ve never really understood how Google’s algorithms work, but Marwick made it easy to understand – I’m impressed with both the speed and ease with which the team has improved our sales.”
