Celtic competition open to Cornwall’s businesses

The Interceltic Business Forum has launched a new competition to find the best innovators, start-ups and scale-ups across the Celtic nations.

The Interceltic Scaling Awards celebrate the diversity and innovation of businesses in the five Celtic regions (Cornwall, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and Brittany) and recognise their ambition and achievements.

Eligible Cornish businesses are encouraged to apply for a chance to win a package of support and promotion.

Five finalists from across the Celtic regions will travel to Brittany (costs covered), where they will present their value proposition to judges and answer questions.

The judging panel will consist of experts from Celtic organisations with a demonstrated track record in entrepreneurship, economic development, and business internationalisation.

Two runners-up will receive €5,000 in funding support, extensive marketing and PR opportunities, mentoring, incubation/soft landing support in another Celtic nation, and other benefits.

The overall winner will receive €20,000 in funding, extensive publicity, an invitation to future Interceltic Business Forum events as a speaker, and up to three months of incubation support in another Celtic nation of their choice.

The final will be hosted in Lorient, Brittany, on 12th August as part of the Festival Interceltique de Lorient. Better known in the UK as the Interceltic Festival, the annual event has been running for over 50 years and celebrates Celtic culture and traditions.

The awards are open to businesses with an HQ in one of the five Celtic regions, a minimum revenue of €250k (or funding if pre-revenue), at least two years since establishment, and operating in one of the following industries: Technology, Manufacturing or Services with a sustainability dimension

Nicola Lloyd, Cornwall Trade and Investment said: “These awards are a fantastic opportunity for Cornwall to demonstrate its capabilities across key markets and access new opportunities.

“As a Celtic region, we are physically on the periphery of the United Kingdom, but in recent years our geographical position has opened up a wealth of opportunities enabling us to take a leading role in powering its future.

“This competition is another chance to shine a light on the pioneering work we are doing to grow the tech sector, deliver sustainable manufacturing innovation, and lead the UK towards its Net Zero ambition.”

Deadline for applications is Monday 24th June 2024.
